My project "Symphony of Dogs," in collaboration with the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp, is deeply rooted in my admiration for the complexity and individuality of dogs. These beings are not just pets to me; they are unique entities with their own personalities, quirks, and emotions. My aim is to capture the diversity of more than 100 characters in a single shot, portraying them as living beings who are as unique and valuable as humans.
The inspiration to create this image and the choice to realize it on the steps of the museum stemmed from my desire to cast dogs in a new light. By positioning them in a place traditionally reserved for art, I wanted to elevate dogs to the level of artworks, giving them the recognition and attention they deserve. The shot, taken on World Animal Day, not only emphasizes the important role of animals in our lives but also celebrates their presence in a way that blurs the boundaries between animals and high art. People, dressed in tones matching the museum's forecourt to blend with the background and to be merely an ornament of the image on World Animal Day, ensure the dogs receive all the attention they deserve. The only human faces are those of sculpted artists incorporated into the museum's facade.
As an artist, I feel both the privilege and the responsibility to shed light on important issues and foster conversations. This project, which questions our relationship with dogs in such a public and visually impressive manner, is my attempt to contribute to greater awareness and appreciation for these magnificent animals.
